How to differentiate between pyogenic and amoebic liver abscess clinically????

LikeAnswersShare
Amebic abscesses are more common in areas where Entamoeba histolytica is endemic, whereas pyogenic abscesses are more common in developed countries. Pyogenic abscess severity is dependent on the bacterial source and the underlying condition of the patient. Jaundice is more common in the pyogenic abscess. Amebic liver abscess is more prevalent in individuals with suppressed cell-mediated immunity, men, and younger people.

Patients with amoebic abscess are more likely to be young with a tender, solitary right abscess. Patients with pyogenic abscess more likely to be over 50 years old, with a history of diabetes and jaundice, with pulmonary findings, multiple abscesses, amebic serological titre;<1:256IU,and lower levels of serum albumin(P<0.004)
