UPDATE ON OUTCOMES OF HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS WITH COVID19 AND DIABETES

Dear my friends and fellow Colleagues, Here is an update on Hospitalised COVID19 patients with Diabetes. 1) More than 10 % patients with Diabetes who get hospitalised for COVID-19 die within one week. 2) About one third require mechanical ventilation. 3) Even in Diabetics, each increase in BMI independently increases the risk of death & intubation. 4) Use of RAAS blockers & DPP4 inhibitors do not increase the risk of death. A study from France, Diabetologia, June, 2020. Diabetologia is an official publication of EASD. EASD European Association for the Study of Diabetes. Regards and thanks, Dr Sepuri Krishna Mohan.

This study is from France. But Indian scenario should be different from them and perhaps getting more recovered cases. Geographical condition and immunity contributes in clinical recovery and deterioration. Diabetic, hypertensive, COPD, patients who are on ART, AKT, chemotherapy, and those on HD should maintain good treatment compliance and so that the parameters. Thanks for updates sir.. Regards.

Dear Godara Sir, Wonderful question indeed. If HbA1c is around 6% or less than 7%, the outcomes in COVID19 would most often be very favorable sir. Regards and thanks, Dr Sepuri Krishna Mohan.
