Herpes Zoster or shingles. Reactivation of zoster virus dormant in the nerve roots /ganglia. Treatment Acyclovir oral 800mg qid for 5 days. Pain from nerve roots should be treated with Nsaids./topical calamine efc

Herpes Zoster infection Rx Acyclovir: 800 mg q4h (5 doses daily) for 7 days. OR Famciclovir: 500 mg TID for 7 days. OR Acyclovir: 800 mg q4h (5 doses daily) for 7 days For pain NSAID’s Gabapantin/ pregalin Corticosteroids- short tapering dose reduces neuritis phase Lidocaine gel L/A Amitryptiline low dose @ night
