BRAIN DEAD vs COMA

LikeAnswersShare
In brain death 1) Apnoea 2) Loss of cranial reflexes ( papillary reflex to light, loss of oculo cephalic reflex, corneal reflex ) 3) 2 EEGs taken in space of 24 hours showing no electrical activity. There are many other tests like nuclear scan, angiography , for brain death, but decision is made clinically, agreed by 2 neurologists, examining the patient independently.
Thank you doctor

Brain death is not the same as coma, because someone in a coma is unconscious but still alive. Brain death occurs when a critically ill patient dies sometime after being placed on life support. This situation can occur after, for example, a heart attack or stroke. Coma is a state of deep unconsciousness that lasts for an indeterminate length of time. While in this state, the brain continues to emit electric impulsive signals.... Brain death is a clinical term, diagnosed only after a series of tests have been performed on the patient to determine whether they are able to respond to external stimulli.
