Always calculate eGFR measuring serum creatinine ,age, sex, race and weight by CKD -EPI equation or MDRD equation. eGFR is a calculation from serum creatinine ,age ,sex and weight and more sensitive indicator of kidney function rather than serum creatinine. eGFR always declines with age. It scores over serum creatinine in assessing severity of Diabetic Nephropathy. Stages of Diabetic Nephropathy are based on eGFR. Stage 1 is normal or high eGFR more than 90 mL/ min/1.73 m2. Stage 2 is Mild DKD, eGFR between 60 to 89 mL/ min/ 1.73 m2. Stage 3 A is Moderate DKD , eGFR is between 45 to 59 mL/ min/1.73 m2. Stage 3 B is Moderate DKD, eGFR is between 30 to 44 mL/min/1.73m2. Stage 4 Severe DKD, eGFR is between 15 to 29 mL/ min/1.73m2. Stage 5 ESRD , eGFR is below 14 mL /min/1.73 m2.

Off cource...eGFR... eGFR - Estimated glomerular filtration rate is the best test to measure the level of kidney function and determine the stage of kidney disease. Creatinine is a waste product formed by the normal breakdown of muscle cells. Healthy kidneys take creatinine out of the blood and put it into the urine to leave the body. When the kidneys are not working well, creatinine builds up in the blood. For DM severity eGFR is better and for Kidney functioning S.Creatine is better.
Yes sir eGFR is always better
