UPDATE ON NEW MECHANISM OF ACTION OF METFORMIN THROUGH INTESTINE LUMEN

Dear my friends and fellow Colleagues, Here is an update on Metformin. Metformin treatment was associated with increased accumulation of ? <18F ? >FDG in the intraluminal space of the intestine, suggesting that this drug promotes the transport of glucose from the circulation into stool. Reference (Morita Y et al. Diabetes Care 2020 May; dc200093) Regards and thanks, Dr Sepuri Krishna Mohan

Intestinal glucose uptake is enhanced by metformin but is it excreted in stools? Are there any studies which have measured glucose in stools ,if so then this drug is a counterpart of sglt2 inhibitors , urine being the site of excretion with it
