SATURATED FATS- ROLE IN CONCENTRATION

Eating high saturated fats, may reduce concentration .A lot of debate is going on in this regard. Over the years the role of vegetarian diet has been shown to prolong life Adequate dietary intake and nutritional status have important effects on brain functions and on brain health. Energy intake and specific nutrients excess or deficiency from diet differently affect cognitive processes, emotions, behaviour, neuroendocrine functions and synaptic plasticity with possible protective or detrimental effects on neuronal physiology. Lipids, in particular, play structural and functional roles in neurons. Here the importance of dietary fats and the need to understand the brain mechanisms activated by peripheral and central metabolic sensors. Thus, the manipulation of lifestyle factors such as dietary interventions may represent a successful therapeutic approach to maintain and preserve brain health along lifespan.

Omega- 6 and Omega- 3 long chain PUFAs also known as n- 6 or n3 PUFA respectively have inflammatory potential. In fact n- 6 PUFA arachidonic acid exerts pro inflammatory and atherogenic actions visits conversion by COX - cyclooxygenase and LOX- lipooxygenase enzymatic pathways to bioactive mediators known as Eicosanoids - Prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes . Low,n- 3 PUFA have been associated with neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders with inflammatory outcomes. It has been recognized that dietary n- PUFA have anti aging effects that support cognitive processes and maintain synaptic functions and plasticity. In turn , diet high in saturated fats negatively impact brain functions and increases cardiovascular and neurological disorders. Gut brain communication through microtia has been well established. Deranged microbiota has been associated with brain disorders and neuro degenerative diseases such as ASD ,depression and Alzheimers disease Lactobacillus rhamnosus administration causes modulation of GABA receptors in CNS and has ability to mitigate stress induced corticosterone response, depression and anxiety like behavior. Chronic colitis can elicit anxiety like behavior and administration of bifidobacterium longus, can produce anxiolytic effects via vagal connection between brain and ENS ( Enteric nervous system also called second brain)
