since how many days . from one or both eyes . usually chlamydial in origin . drug of choice erythromycin . althrocin drops 10 drops thrice daily for 14 days . tropical antibiotic eye drops are usually not needed . but we are under pressure to prescribe one . so give ciplox eye drops too .

GONORRHOEA. GONORRHOEA is caused by NEISSERIA GONORRHOEA.It is a intracellular gram negative diplococcus. MODE OF TRANSMISSION. Unprotected vaginal,oral or anal sex. Sharing vibrators or other sex toys that have not been washed or covered with a new condom each time they are used. It is also transmitted from a pregnant mother to her child. THE BACTERIA CANNOT SURVIVE OUTSIDE THE HUMAN BODY FOR LONG.SO GONORRHOEA IS NOT SPREAD BY KISSING,HUGGING,SHARING BATHTOWELS , SWIMMING POOLS,TOILET SEATS,SHARING CUPS,PLATES AND CUTLERY. SYMPTOMS IN WOMEN. Unusual vaginal discharge ,which may c e thin or watery,green or yellow in colour. Dysuria. Pain and tenderness lower abdomen. Intermenstrual bleeding /post coital bleeding. SYMPTOMS IN MEN. Unusual discharge from the tip of penis,which may be white,yellow or green. Dysuria. Can also cause proctitis. It can also cause gonococcal conjunctivitis and pharyngitis.I t also cause Neonatal conjunctivitis or ophthalmia neonatorum. COMPLICATIONS. PID. TUBAL INFERTILITY. BARTHOLIN'S ABSCESS.RISK OF ECTOPIC PREG. DISSEMINATED GONORRHOEA. causes. Fever. Pustular rash. Migratory polyarthralgia. Septic arthritis. TREATMENT. Ceftriaxone intravenous 1 GM and tab Azithromycin given orally. Partners should be treated. Ophthalmia neonatorum should be treated with antibiotic ointment. DIAGNOSIS. Endocervical /vulvovaginal /rectal /urethral /pharyngeal swabs are tested for NUCLEIC ACID AMPLIFICATION TEST.When diagnosed,take the discharge for culture and sensitivity before antibiotic treatment. IMPLICATIONS DURING PREGNANCY. Associated with PROM,Chorioamnionitis. Risk of ophthalmia neonatorum for the baby. I recently had a infertility couple who had typical discharge .
