BOOT SHAPED HEART ?

A 2 month old male baby having c/o of cough, crying, irregular pulse and disturb sleep.after admission in hospital Dr gave antibiotics and neb(duoline and budecort) after this t/t baby feels better..but in between t/t CXRAP is done and pediatrician said it was normal..so the point is that I'm confused with this xray there is boot shaped heart..?? If it is true it means there is TOF.. so please help to figure out this.. thanks..

It's sail sign. Enlarged thymus. Which is appearing like a boot to u. It takes time for heart to become boot shape if tof is present. Nothing wrong in still going for echocardiography. Do cbc crp. I think u r dealing with bronchiolitis. N baby is irritable due to blocked nose or hypoxia. Nebulization should b with adrenaline or 3 % ns.

Yes, Shadow in X Ray appears like "Boot Shaped heart" with an upturned cardiac apex due to right ventricular hypertrophy and concave pulmonary arterial segment. Most infants with tetralogy of Fallot, however, may not show this finding . Pulmonary oligemia occurs due to decreased pulmonary arterial flow..

X Ray chest shows normal finding There is mediastinal enlargement caused by thymus It is a normal finding and it is giving appearance of boot shaped heart

Yes,right now looks like Bootshaped but nothing abnormal, gradually original shape of heart will be visible in future in due course of time. However for clear conception 2D Echo may be done aft a month.
