PYREXIA - PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS SHOULD BE KEPT IN MIND

A 21 years old female with history of fever whose widal test was positive and is being treated with inj Cefriaxone 2 gm B.D for 5 days by some clinician . As she reported in O.P.D - considering her emaciated look - X - ray was advised . It looked like Pulmonary tuberculosis as ESR was also significantly high at 82 . Aim of this post is that - in india in all case of Pyrexia - X - ray chest P / A view should be done as a mandatory investigation which is cheap and is the baseline investigation Opinions welcomed

A case of PULMONARY tuberculosis. As being treated for typhoid fever- just an X - ray was enough to diagnose- Because patient did not had PULMONARY symptoms. Widal test should not be relied on Of late - I am observing false positive widal test in even COVID-19 disease

Agree with you sir. In India especially in rural area where quacks usually misguide the patient . They use antibiotics without any confirmatory diagnosis.

Ask for Sputum for AFB for 3 consecutive days

Thank you doctor
