KERATOLYTIC AGENTS:: Keratolytics are the drugs which when applied locally ,cause a mild peeling of the superficial layers of the skin.They are useful in all the lesions with hyperkeratogenesis and hard thicken skin lesions.(1)SALICYLIC ACID.This is an irritant and causes peeling and comedolysis.An good old drug but still so many dermatologist recommande when the others faill.Used also as antifungal.Indiacations are acne vulgaris,dandruff,soborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis.(2)PROPYLENE GLYCOLthis is useful in icthyosis,(3) UREA:: Cream or ointment softens the skin.used in Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.It had hydratinng,keratolytic and antipruritic action on skin and it increases the absorption of hydrocortisone when used a s a combination.(4)BENZOYL PEROXIDE:Cream or lotion.This had keratolytic as well as antibacterial property used in infected lesions of skin.(5)TRETINOIN: it acts on the retinoid nuclear receptors and normalises the follicular keratinisation,Used in acne vulgaris and other disorders of keratin.
