In cases above 20 weeks, acyclovir is given within 24 hours of occurence of rash. Topical calamine lotion may provide relief from itching and burning. Bathing daily and encourage not to scratch. Prevention of secondary bacterial infections. If chickenpox is between 8 to 20 weeks, there's risk of congenital varicella syndrome. Can refer to fetal medicine specialist. Counselling of couple is important. VZ immunoglobulin therapy can be given if the women is exposed to VZ. It is given within ten days of exposure.
Acyclovir is usually given within 24 hours of rash in case pregnancy is above 20 weeks. In all cases symptomatic treatment like plenty of fluids, paracetamol,cooling creams are given

Acyclovir 800mg 5 times or valacyclovir 1000mg tds.. either of them can be given. No teratogenic potential of either have been noted in studies so far
