LONGER BREAST FEEDING LOWER TYPE 2 DM RISK AFTER GESTATIONAL DIABETES

Dear friends and fellow colleagues, Here is a latest update. Longer breast feeding lower the risk of Type 2 DM after Gestational Diabetes. Women who breastfed for 2 years or longer had a27% lower risk than that of those who didnot breastfed at all ,even after adjustment for age, ethnicity, family history of Diabetes, parity, age at first birth, smoking,diet quality, physical activity, prepregnancy bodymass index, according to the findings published in Diabetes care. Thanks Dr Tirumala for this important update .As already mentioned - longer breast feeding lowers the risk of type - 2 DM after gestational Diabetes. It may be linked extra calories which are burnt with breast feeding. Beaided this,there are other significant advantages to the mother 1.Prevention from hypertension. IHD , metabolic syndrome 2.Protection from breast and ovarian malignancy 3.lowers the risk of depression 4.Helps uterus contract due to release of oxytocin associated with breast feeding and reduces bleeding .Also it reduces the abdominal girth which is commonly seen after delivery
