Amiodarone can lead to both hypothyroidism (amiodarone-induced hypothyroidism) and less commonly hyperthyroidism (amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis) Amiodarone lead to inhibition of T4 & T3 entry into the peripheral tissues. Both amiodarone n its principle metabolite may have direct cytotoxic effects on the thyroid follicular cells, leading to a destructive thyroiditis . Normal thyroid autoregulation is lost because of the relatively high iodine content in amiodarone 200 mg Amiodarone contain approx 75 mg Iodine . ((Dronedarone is a relatively new anti-arrhythmic drug with least side effects ))))
