Angular Cheilitis healing stages

45 y/o female wakes up with these once every few months to a year with no signs nor symptoms. Mildly painful. Treats it with some herbal ointment and it resolves after a few days. I am not sure if it resolves because, or in spite of the ointment so I suggested next time leave it alone and compare. What do you suggest?

Angular Cheilitis - Begins as dry, irritated or cracked skin at corners of the mouth. - Causative factors like Yeast or Staphylococcal infection Deficiencies of iron or vitamins Allergies Inflammatory bowel diseases. Rarely self limiting. Needs treatment to cure. DD: Recurrent Herpes Simplex Labialis (Primarily vesicular rash. Self limiting within 4 to 7 days).

Angular Chelitis. Inflammation and small cracks in one or both corners of the mouth. Saliva collecting at the corners of the mouth can cause a build-up of microorganisms, leading to angular cheilitis. Risk factors include wearing dentures or using masks at work. In children, use of a dummy can be a risk factor. Fungal infection is the most common cause of angular cheilitis. It's usually caused by a type of yeast called Candida-- the same fungus that causes diaper rash in babies. Certain bacteria strains also can cause it. If your doctor can't find the cause, it's called idiopathic angular cheilitis.
