If there's breach of skin with bleeding. There's plethora of organisms in dogs saliva. Usually the patient presents to us after receiving treatment from quacks and pharmacist. Better to start amoxiclav n dont forget the tetanus prophylaxis . If the patient presents to u first hand. Ask them to clean the wound under running tap water with soap first.

If infected than antibiotics are given otherwise not

Usually antibiotics are not advocated Only ARV & ARG is given

Local cleaning and dressing is sufficient with anti rabies serum and vaccine If painful Then Start anti inflammatory and analgesics

FOR MINOR DOG BITE, THERE IS NO NEED OF ANTIBIOTICS, IF WOUND SEEMS INFECTED & VERY DEEP THEN ANTIBIOTICS CAN BE USED. IN MINOR WOUNDS C&D IS ENOUGH . TT SHOULD BE GIVEN ALONG WITH ARV.

Cleaning & dressing should not be used with betadine (as iodine content may irritate skin and makes easy way for entering virus) , so best way for C&D use solvents without iodine content ! Best soap wash alone ., Antibiotics coverage depends wound status !

It's not necessary for minor wounds. Cleaning and dressing the wound is sufficient in healthy individuals to prevent infection. However, wound should be watched and if signs of infection develop, antibiotics should be initiated. For individuals at higher risk of infection, antibiotics should be started. TT should definitely be given If the vaccination status of the Dog is unknown or the dog is behaving erratically or foaming at mouth, rabies shots should also be started even if its a minor break / scratch of skin.

In category 2 and 3 sos antibiotics can be given.

ANTIBIOTICS COVERAGE .. PROPHYLAXIS .. SHOULD BE USED FOR .. HIGH RISK .. BITE WOUND ..
