BRACHIAL PLEXUS

Branches of Lateral cord of brachial plexus can be enumerated and remembered by remembering a simple mnemonic LML : which means Lateral pectoral nerve , Musculocutaneous nerve and Lateral root of median nerve. A frequently asked Q. for 1st year undergraduate student. Similarly branches from medial cord of brachial plexus can be remembered and enumerated by using mnemonic M 4 U whic means : Medial pectoral nerve , Medial cutaneous nerve of arm, Medial cutaneous nerve of forearm , Medial root of median nerve and Ulnar nerve. And branches from posterior cord of brachial plexus can be remembered and enumerated by using mnemonic ULTRA which means : Upper subscapular nerve , Lower subscapular nerve , Thoraco-dorsal nerve , Radial nerve , and Axillary nerve.Dr. Dinesh Gupta

The brachial plexus is a network (plexus) of nerves (formed by the anterior rami of the lower four cervical nerves and first thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7, C8, and T1).... . This plexus extends from the spinal cord, through the cervicoaxillary canal in the neck, over the first rib, and into the armpit. It supplies afferent and efferent nerve fibers to the chest, shoulder, arm, forearm, and hand.. Good topic initiated Dr.Vimalji.

Axillary nerve which is a branch from posterior cord of brachial plexus is also known as circumflex humeral nerve. It winds round the surgical neck of humerus. Injury to this nerve results in flattening of shoulder due to paralysis of deltoid muscle which it supplies and loss of rounded contour of shoulder. The branch of this nerve to teres minor muscle bears a pseudoganglion.@ @Dr. Dinesh Gupta

The Musculocutaneous nerve which is a branch from Lateral cord of brachial plexus is the nerve of arm region and supplies muscles of arm , i. e. brachialis , coracobrachialis , and the biceps brachii muscles.Later on in the forearm it becomes cutaneous and continues as Lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm.@Nasira Bashir @Dr. Dinesh Gupta
