Chronic bronchitis

Chronic bronchitis is a type of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Chronic bronchitis is inflammation and irritation of the bronchial tubes in lungs. Chronic means it lasts longer than 3 months. When bronchial tubes/ airways are irritated, thick mucus forms in them. The mucus plugs up the airways and makes it hard for air to get into lungs. That makes it hard to breathe. Bronchitis also causes a cough that produces mucus/ sputum and a feeling of tightness in your chest. Causes: - Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses. - Cigarette smoking is the main cause of chronic bronchitis. - chemical fumes - air pollution - dust - Rarely, a genetic condition called alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can play a role in causing chronic bronchitis. - age - 40 to 65 years Symptoms: - Frequent coughing, often with mucus - tight chest - wheezing - shortness of breath - tired feeling - symptoms worst in winter - Some people with chronic bronchitis get frequent respiratory infections such as colds and the flu. Investigation: - lung function tests - a chest x-ray  - CT scan - blood tests Treatment: - quit smoking - Daily exercise improves lung capacity by strengthening the muscle - bronchodilator - A breathing method called “pursed-lip breathing” may also help. - pulmonary rehabilitation - oxygen therapy - if patient is in highly polluted region, he should wear mask whenever go outside. Few Homeopathic medicines: - Bryonia - Causticum - Antimonium tart - Kali bichromicum - Arsenic album - Arsenic iodatum - Kali carbonicum - sticta pulmonaria - Phosphorus -Silicea - Tuberculinum
