Hiccups can be prevented by avoiding overeating, eating too quickly, or drinking too much. Other measures includes:- 1.Holding your breath 2.Drinking a glass of water quickly 3.Pulling hard on your tongue 4.Biting on a lemon 5.Gargling with water 6.Breathing smelling salts. And medications such as chlorpromazine(Thorazine),haloperidol(Haldol), and metoclopramide (Reglan) for severe, persistent hiccups.
Had a patient whose hiccups were treated metoclopropamide . Finally it subsided with pulling tongue.
