World Hypertension Day - Know your number

1 in 5 women and 1 in 4 men have hypertension, but most of the people remain undiagnosed. High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, but if left untreated it may lead to serious consequences such as heart attack, stroke or maybe premature death also. Lifestyle modification is a major management factor to control Hypertension but not all patients are willing to do it. How do you manage these patients? Share your experience

At present govt is running NCD (non communicable disease) programme, hypertension is included in NCD. ANM measures blood pressure of all above the age of 30 yrs in house to house survey in their sub centre areas. Case found are attended by Medical officer in PHC and given treatment. In case any complication is found they are attended by Medical Specialists at Civil/ Distt Hospital. This is recorded and cards are kept
This looks very good on paper..Ground reality is different..

Most of the symptoms appear only when there is damage of end organ. So it is necessary to counsel every patient of hypertension and advised them to take proper medicine and not to stop the medicine they are taking without the prescription or advice of their treating Doctor. Most of the patient stop medication if there is no symptoms. So they should be counselled properly about not to stop medication without advice.

Useful share. Nice to know. Thanks
USEFUL AND NICE. UPDATE
Useful information
Most of the doctors doesn't like to tale patients about their disease but I don't believe this except malignancy doctor should tale every thing to his patients about treatment precaution and cosiquences. Examples are MRD tubeclosis most of the doctors doesn't tale because they are afraid to loose their patient by taling them about tuberculosis particularly in remote areas of country . Similarly not taling abut hypertension they are putting patient on risk. One thing to be remember it a psychology of every patient he wants to know what happened to his or her body.
