5TH JUNE - WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

As we observe World Environment Day during the coronavirus pandemic, one thing that is for sure is that we are now more conscious about our health, than we were before the pandemic. Whether it is taking precautions like washing our hands regularly, or about eating foods that keep us healthy in general, and boost immunity, we are all following it religiously. However, it is also a time when we must think, and ensure that any of our actions, including those that we undertake to lose weight and get fit, Here are 5 eco-friendly ways you can lose weight, and be healthy overall, in a more sustainable way Waste disposal: As we eat lots of healthy vegetables and fruits, we must also focus on the disposal of waste generated by it. Not only should be ensure no wastage of food, we must also find eco-friendly ways to get rid of it. 'Reduce reuse, and recycle' are the 3 Rs we must follow in this respect. We must try to reduce our waste, reuse vegetable peels as compost for our plants, and recycle whatever we can from the waste that we generate.   Reduce the use of plastic: Plastic is non-biodegradable, and stays on the planet forever, once it is produced. Reducing use of plastic and switching it up with bio-degradable items like wood, for instance, in toothbrushes, etc, can go a long way in keeping our environment clean and healthy. Even skipping ropes are most commonly made with plastic, but can be replaced with other eco-friendly materials.   Walk, run, when possible:  If you have to go to the next block to get your groceries, or have to get to your office from the nearest bus stand, you must try to walk, or run when possible, instead of using a motor vehicle for it. Not only will it be easy on the pocket, and healthy for you, it will also be great for the environment and air pollution.   Skip meat, at least once a week: Animals are a part of the environment, and while consuming them as food may be important to meet your nutritional requirements, you can contribute in striking a balance by going meat-free at least once a week.   Cook your own food: As basic as it sounds, the plastic containers from almost all take-away joints contribute largely to the plastic waste generation. Eating home-cooked food is the best way to go – especially when you are trying to be healthy. It is hygenic, healthy, and produces less waste. You must also give a feedback to the restaurant/food joint to switch to cardboard containers, or reusable containers instead, every time your food arrives in plastic boxes, with plastic packaging.
