Good evening revered Curofians. Let us get back in time to see something interesting. French physician, Rene Theophile Laennec [1781-1826], devised first stethoscope in 1816. Laennec was regarded as the father of chest medicine, he demonstrated the importance of the instrument in diagnosing the diseases of the lungs, heart and vascular systems. He however died of tuberculosis. Here is one of his original stethoscope, made of wood and brass consisting of a single hollow tube. Best regards. [ Credit : Wikipedia ]

Thanks a lot dear Kaji for posting an useful article on the proto type of stethoscope by Rene Lennec exactly 200 yrs ago. Later on it took so many shapes and models and finally Dr Littmann, a physician and Assistant professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA had come out with the most standard stethoscope what we are using now. Above pic is Dr Rene Lennec.

Dr Littmann, Physician and Assistant professor, Dept of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA who improvised and finally made the sophisticated stethoscope in the world.

This was called direct auscultation before Lennec invented the proto type of stethoscope.
