Idiopathic Bel's palsy.
A 39y old male patient came with c/o Deviation of angle of mouth to left side. Unable close the right eye completely . Folds over the forehead on rt side absent. heaviness of head present. All these present since 2 days. No c/o - fever, throat infection, ear pain in the past 1week. No c/o - post auricular pain. No c/o - weakness in the rt side of body, or even lt side. Not a k/c/o- HTN/DM. Is the diagnosis suggestive of IDIOPATHIC BEL'S PALSY. What is the treatment for this pt.???
Idiopathic bells palsy - Prednisolone 1mg/kg tapered over 10 days along with T. Acyclovir 800 mg five times a day for 10 days, of viral infection of suspected clinically.
If you exclude other causes of LMN facial palsy, and the diagnosis is idiopathic Bell's palsy Start prednisone 1mg / kg ,reducing dosage for 2 weeks. Facial physio with electric stimulation
Left umn palsy . Tab.acicyclovir 800mg for every 5 th hourly For 5 days Tab.wyslone 1mg /kg body weight bd And taper it half the dose And single dose Tab.pantop dsr Cap renerve plus Tab.mvi daily one Electrocution physiotherapy exercises regularly For 1 week
To say it as idiopathic Bell's paly one must rule out all possible causes of it. 1.Infective 2.Inflammatory 3.Demyelination 4.Autoimmune disorder 5.Vascular
