kidney disease
The level of creatinine in the blood, a chemical waste product produced by your body and filtered by the kidneys, can vary depending on age and body size. Your creatinine level may increase temporarily if you are dehydrated, have low blood volume, have consumed large amounts of meat or have taken some medicines. A coherent high creatinine level of more than 1.2 for women and 1.4 for men may be an early indication that the kidneys are not functioning properly. As kidney disease increases, the creatinine level in the blood increases.
