Yes - cardio- renal safety is good with metformin- but MACCE ( major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events ) can not be saved or can increase analysis of participants with CKD3-4 from two cardiovascular outcomes trials supports the cardiorenal safety of metformin but does not suggest a consistent benefit on MACE, ACM, or eGFR slope across this population."

The conclusion of the study quoted says, metformin use in CKD has increased the risk of MACCE (Metformin adverse effects on coronary and cerebrovascular events) While reducing mortality due to CKD and progression to ESRD.
