Regarding front of leg : The structures from medial to lateral side wnich crosses the extensor retinaculum are ( they can be remembered and memorized by The Hospitals Are Not Dirty Places ) i.e. , Tibialis anterior , extensor Hallucis longus, Anterior tibial artery, deep peroneal Nerve, extensor Digitorum longus , and Peroneus tertius. hence, it is clear that the most medial ( and also superficial ) muscle of anterior compartment of leg is Tibialis anterior , hence in the mcq , the most appropriate choice is a. tibialis anterior.
