NON SURGICAL OPTIONS FOR TREATMENT OF FIBROIDS. Earlier, the only curative therapy for FIBROIDS was hysterectomy. But , nowadays there are multiple options for treatment of fibroids. 1.HIFU //MRgFUS High intensity focused ultrasound or Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound. 2.UTERINE ARTERY EMBOLIZATION. 3.PROGESTINS. Progestins may control bleeding by reducing endometrial hyperplasia, but will not help in shrinkage of tumor. 4.SERMs : SELECTIVE ESTROGEN RECEPTOR MODULATORS Ex : sevista Raloxifene. 5.GnRH ANALOGUES. They are effective in reduction of fibroid size, but following discontinuation of treatment, tumors may regrow to pretreatment size. They also cause undesired side effects related to hypoestrogenism. 6.SPRMs : SELECTIVE PROGESTERONE RECEPTOR MODULATORS. EX : Mifepristone. Ullipristal. Telapristone Asoprisnil Mifepristone is used as 10 mg/day for 6months. Ullipristal is given for 3 months. Among all these options, commonly used drug is sevista//ormeloxifene.It is given as 60 mg twice weekly for 3 months and once weekly for 3 months. Ullipristal and Mifepristone are new drugs recently in the market for treatment of fibroids. Uterine artery embolization is also followed .
