@ Dr Gowhar Ahmad Causes of acute orbital cellulitis . Most commonly spread of infection from paranasal sinuses. In children ethmoiditis is common due to least resistance because of separation of orbit from this sinus by thin lamina papyracea. . Spread of infection from teeth, lacrimal apparatus or skin. . Rarely penetrating injury with retained foreign body in the orbit. Complications include exposure keratitis, orbital abscess, subperosteal abscess, papilloedema, optic neuritis, panophthalmitis, cavernous sinus thrombosis ; rarely CRAO, septicaemia and pyaemia.
