Post Polio Syndrome (PPS, Poliomyelitis Sequelae)

Post polio syndrome is a group of latent symptoms of Poliomyelitis occurring at about a 25-40% latest data is greater than 80%. The syndrome are caused by damaging effects of the viral infection of the nervous system. Symptoms typically occurs 15 to 30 years after initial acute Poliomyelitis attack. Symptoms include decreasing muscle power function and acute weakness and pain fatigue. Diagnosis Diagnosis of Post Polio Syndrome can be difficult, since the syndrome are hard to separate from complications. Due to the Poliomyelitis and infirmities of aging process no laboratory for post polio syndrome is known nor any other specific diagnostic criteria. Three important criteria are recognized including previous diagnosis of polio, long interval of recovery and gradual on weakness. Management Proper Orthotics management, reliving via proper rest and comfortable wheel chair for mobility for limited activities. If individuals have a good stamina can use lower limb Orthoses to restore and boost up remaining muscle power. Physiotherapy management also be useful for proper movements and muscle power.
