Safety of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine during Pregnancy – Preliminary Findings

FOGSI has recommended that obstetricians and gynaecologists and women’s healthcare providers should be allowed to administer Covid-19 vaccines to pregnant and breastfeeding women with preparations to manage adverse events. FOGSI has acknowledged that there is limited data available on the use of Covid-19 vaccines in pregnancy, especially of the vaccines available in India. FOGSI chairperson has said, “However, there is a need to prevent further waves and the vaccine is the best and long term solution to this. This protection should extend to pregnant and lactating women. The very real benefits of vaccinating pregnant and lactating women seem to far outweigh any theoretical and remote risks of vaccination.” Please share your views on vaccinating pregnant and lactating women with COVID-19 vaccines.........

We need to understand and convince the pregnant women for vaccination is more important than consequences Certainly still more studies are required to understand when to give ie in which trimester to start As from studies seen some spontaneous abortions and fetal deaths are they bcz of vaccination Rest of reactionary findings are minimal and manageable

We are shortage of vaccine for every group due to large population and less production still we must cover pregnant and lactating mother for vaccination . Before going we must assess the safety and efficacy of vaccine on pregnant and lactating mother and new born child any side effects . We are short of man power and supply therefore proper training and supply must assure. We one must be vaccinated to achieved herd immunity.

Absolutely right ,it should be administered to every pregnant and lactating women. Moreover the vaccines are not live attenuated vaccines, so any illeffect to foetuse even in 1st trimester may be unjustified. However future monitoring should be thoroughly undertaken.

Important topic for debate & discussions & researches. Now question arises how pregnant mothers & their foetus will be protected from this pandemic COVID-19.? If current available anticorona vaccines are not safe for pregnant mothers then what will be the alternative? Burning question?

A normal healthy pregnant woman who naturally throughout life years has enjoyed a good quality of health would be at best of her immune system and able to fight any sort of infections. This is the ideal situation. The percentage of this group is less presently. The group which is more at risk would be: Women who are already stressed with various factors and do not enjoy a very good quality of health. Women who have used artificial means to get pregnant. Women who have crossed their natural age for healthy pregnancy, etc.
