is there icterus too . cbc crp blood c/s tsb direct indirect serum electrolytes usg abdomen needs to b done . rehydrate the child . paracetamol iv for fever . hold feeds . i would suggest inj vancomycin n inj piperacillin . adjust as per culture report . give ionotrop support . inj kenadion . dont apply anything near umbilicus . late onset neonatal sepsis / omphalitis . keep a check on impending nec . place a nasogastric tube in situ .
Neo natal sepsis. Check CBC . Antibiotics. Better child should be treated in Neonatal ward.
A case of neonatal sepsis. Start IV Ampicillin 6 hourly + Amikacin IV 12 hourly Send blood c/s before starting antibiotics. Change if indicated. Adv. 1. Hb%, TC, DLC 2. Start IV fluid 3. Other supportive treatment as indicated. Preferably to be treated in a neonatal unit.
I will advice to survival sepsis guide line at least once. Fluid management in initial hours is paramount, CRP and calcitonin will help in diagnosis. Never forget about ABG. Shift patient to neonatal intensive care. Emperical antibiotic.

Late onset septicemia Send CBC, CRP and blood culture and sensitivity And then start empirically cefotaxim 100mg/kg /day and amikacin 15mg/kg/day till the reports of blood culture and sensitivity arrives Start IV fluids as the baby is not feeding
Sepsis Send sepsis work up ( CBC , blood culture , ESR, urine routine) Start Inj.ampitum & amikacin. Start IV fluids in case of dehydration.
