This is a image of 7 year old girl having hairs at lumbar region weighing 12 kg but all her vitals R normal,girl is fully active.She was born with her twin sister who died at the time of delivery.Her mother before conceiving got paraplegia & when she become 4 the month pregnant she came to know about her pregnancy.She was taking some medications before that for paraplegia which I don't know.Is this hairy growth due to some medicines? Parents R concerned about weight of child which is very less.Any investigations reqd and Dx and Rx pls.

7 years Pt. Wt. 12 KGS. This condition is called. " TUFT OF HAIR ON SACRAL REGION " DX : SPINAL DYSRAPHISM. WORK UP WITH MRI SPINE & BRAIN. Though Clinically is is active, but weight is very less FTT. NEEDS HISTORY REGARDING B& B MOVEMENTS , & ANY CNS SOFT SIGNS PRESENT. IF MRI SHOWS ANY LESION IN THE FORM OF PRESSING THE SPINAL CORD/ROOTS OF NERVOUS TISSUE THEN SURGICAL INTERVENTION CAN HELP THE CHILD. ALSO R/O SPINA-BIFIDA-OCCULTA. SOME DRUGS DO CAUSE CONGENITAL ANOMALIES, BUT DRUG NAMES NOT MENTIONED. ANTENATAL SCAN IF DONE SHOULD HAVE DETECTED THE SPINAL DYSRAPHISM WITH TUFT OF HAIR IN THE SACRAL REGION.

Likely spina bifida occult.need an MRI to confirm and to rule out other associated malformations, which help planning operation.Congenital defects of other organs, kidney, heart, hydrocephalus should be looked for

Tuft of hair at sacral region usually associated with spina bifida occulta. This patient can have neurogenic bladder with CKD. MIR spine, USS or KUB indicated.
