RAS or Recurrent apthous stomatitis is a very common, recurrent painful ulceration occurring in the oral cavity. The etiopathogenesis of this disease is yet unclear. Types: Minor, Major & Herpetiform. Predisposing factors: Trauma, Tobacco, Drugs, Hematinic deficiency, Gluten sensitive enteropathy/celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Sodium lauryl sulfate - containing toothpaste, Hormonal changes, Stress, oral streptococci, H. pylori, Various viruses, and more.

Vitamin B12 or iron deficiency,Crohn's disease, certain sore virus, herpes simplex. Poor fitting dentures,stress and anxiety, smoking are causes of recurrent ulceration in mouth

Causes: Poor oral hygiene Drug induced, trauma/physical injury, (sharp teeth cusp) infection, nutritional deficiency (vit b and/or folic acid), high stress/ anxiety level, tobacco, constipation, xerostomia, dryness of mouth, crunchy food , betal nut habit etc.
