What is the best way to localize a lesion in the CNS?

Thanks Dr Anand for the correct answer. The history and physical examination accurately LOCALIZE most lesions of the nervous system. The brain is unique among organs for it's high degree of specialization. Because each part of peripheral nerves, spinal cord, and brain have such specialized functions, damage to each region produces unique clinical deficits.Identification of specific signs and symptoms therefore permits localization, sometimes with in a millimeter, to discrete parts of the nervous system.Pioneer Neurologists of the past century referred to the brain as " eloquent"--it speaks directly to the clinician.
