Comedonal acne. A solar or senile comedo (plural comedones) is a small skin coloured papule found on the face of a middle-aged or older person. Soalr comedones affect areas that have been exposed to sunlight over a long period of time. The comedones may be open (blackheads) or closed (whiteheads). They do not usually become inflamed. Comedonal acne is curable with topical therapy like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. If you do not see your acne improving even after 3-4 months, you may consider a visit to the dermatologist's office. Your doctor may prescribe a different approach like manual extraction or a higher strength retinoid.
