Stye is a very common condition. The word stye is derived from Gk.Steigan meaning to rise This is acute suppurative inflammation of sebaceous gland around an eye lash called gland of Zeis. Stye near the medial or lateral canthus may cause preseptal cellulitis. They may be recurrent and predisposing factors may be as In children - refractive error and helminth infestation In adults - refractive error In elderly- refractive error and diabetes mellitus. A course of broad spectrum antibiotic and NSAID along with topical antibiotic will be effective in most cases. Personally I do not recommend epilating and squeezing
