Psoriasis is often associated with other comorbidities such as psoriatic arthritis, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Psoriasis causes increased medical costs, work limitations, as well as productivity loss. This economic burden, along with reduction in quality of life in patients prompts the need for effective disease management. Topical agents are the cornerstone of treatment, either alone, or in combination with phototherapy or systemic treatments for psoriasis. Topical therapy is the treatment of choice in patients with psoriasis affecting < 10% body surface area (BSA) or for psoriasis affecting sensitive areas such as face, flexures, and genitals.
