Dr. Mehul Vikani is a Bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgeon. After completing his post graduation in general surgery, to explore the field of GI surgery, Dr. Mehul did fellowship in one of the best and highest volume gastro-intestinal surgery department in India at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon. There he received training in advanced abdominal surgeries like esophageal and gastric surgeries, liver resections, pancreatic surgeries, colo-rectal surgeries and bariatric surgery. He then did his fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Bhatia hospital, Mumbai.
Having inclination towards bariatric surgery, he received primary training at GEM Hospital, Coimbatore. To fine tune his skills, he visited the largest hospital in the world – Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan where he was extensively trained in all aspects of bariatric and metabolic surgery including the pre-operative evaluation, surgical skills of international standards and post operative care. He was also trained in nutritional management of these patients. He was even a part of the research team of the bariatric unit. Dr. Mehul then received advanced training in bariatric surgeries at AZ Sint Jan Hospital, Belgium, one of the highest volume centre for obesity surgery, under the esteemed board certified surgeon, Dr. Bruno Dillemans. Apart from the routine bariatric surgeries, he was trained in revision bariatric surgeries, which involved understanding the anatomy and physiological changes, planning and executing the revision surgeries. He was even involved in the academic team of the bariatric unit which helped him understand the subject at a greater depth.
He has presented multiple presentations and publications to his name at national and international level.
