INFANTILE HYDROCELE Č INGUINAL HERNIA
A 3 months old male baby admitted in NICU, according to his mother, balloon like swelling at the scrotum region č pain also complaining with fever č cough and rhinitis. Usg report showing left hydrocele č left inguinal hernia. O/E Pulse 120bpm R/R 26bpm Chest B/L ronchi Abdo. Soft Temp. 101° F What will be the best management ??
It is a case of congenital hydrocele with hernia due to patent processus vaginalis. In hydrocele alone it may be wise to wait upto 1 year of age as there is chance of obliteration of processus vaginalis. But as it is along with hernia it is not wise to wait as there is incarceration is high risk in infancy. So it is better to go for herniotomy as early as possible and thus closing the processus vaginalis. And hydrocele fluid in scrotal sac will be absorbed in due course of time
