B/L Lower limb pain

18 years old female patient with bilateral lower extremity pain that has gradually worsened over the past 2 months. She is an athlete running 6 to 8 miles daily. Over the last 3 weeks she has been under going vigrous training. She states that she consumes a normal diet and has had a regular menstrual cycle for the past year. A bone density test ordered by her physician was normal. Coronal-view MRI is obtained and shows bilateral tibial stress fractures.



Advise to use proper cushioning is her shoes. Shock absorption is needed. Her trainer and dietitian shall be better able to bring necessary changes. Also if suddenly she is overtraining, they need to set her pace accordingly.

Its an case of tibial stress syndrome.As the patient is an athlete so its quite common to overuse the leg muscles.As she has been overworking since last 3 weeks ,the pain seems to be severe.Advise the patient for a good proteinaceous diet and compressions. Stretching before and after running are good option to avoid any kind of stress.
