COUGH Presenting symptom of many illnesses This could be of long standing or may be of acute onset Pt may come as cough A/W fever or productive cough or Dry cough Character of cough Frequency of cough Diurinal variations of cough Cough with dysponea or breathlessness Cough of low pitch or high pitch Cough a/w additional sounds Presentation of cough can provide a clue to diagnosis by experience As whooping cough is charater of diptheria Horseness in cough suggest tracheolaryngitis Harrasing dry cough suggest eosinophilia chr bronchitis or allergic bronchitis Cough bouts with voice suggest broncheiactesis Cough with sputum ie productive Just colour of sputum with cogh suggest the illness Yellowish suggest bacterial infection like cocci Greyish suggest LRTI like atypical pneumonia pneumococcus pneumonae L pneumonae KLEBSELA etc Sputum a/w red colour ie hemoptysis suggest diseases like tuberculosis sarcoidosis Fungal infection of chest has different character of cough which is difficult to describe but learned by experience to identify Much more can be scripted a big chapter
