UPDATE ON PROPHYLACTIC USE OF HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE IN COVID19, ICMR &NTF

Dear my friends and fellow Colleagues, Here is an update on Hydroxychloroquine in COVID 19. The National Task Force for COVID-19 constituted by ICMR recommends use of Hydroxychloroquine for prophylaxis of SARS-CoV-2 infection for high risk population (Asymptomatic health workers involved in care of suspected or confirmed COVID 19 cases or Asymptomatic household contacts of Laboratory confirmed COVID19 cases). Chemoprophylaxis should not in still a false sense of security. All prescribed public health measures must be strictly applied. March23, 2020. Regards and thanks, Dr Sepuri Krishna Mohan.

Sir, what is the recommended prophylactic dosage? And any role of Azithromycin & Zinc?
Dear Dr Partha Sarathi Sahana, Prophylactic dose of HCQS is 400 mg BD on Day 1 F/B 400 mg once a week for 7 weeks. Azithromycin has a crucial role in COVID 19 in preventing secondary Bacterial Pneumonia. Dose is 500 mg Qd for 5 days. Zinc and Vitamin D also have a major role in COVID 19.
