Glaucoma pressure increases various types of visual acuity.. damaged Optic nerve..
Glaucoma is a group of disorder characterized by Diverse clinical and histopathological features ,most common being optic neuropathy whose main risk is raised IOP. Glaucoma classification Developmental - primary and associated with anomalies Acquired Primary -open and closed angle Secondary- open and closed angle Apart from this classification there are variations like Ocular hypertension (glaucoma suspect ), normotensive or low tension glaucoma. In classification of PACG there are 5 overlapping stages: 1. Angle closure suspect 2. Intermittent angle closure 3.Acute angle closure 4. Chronic angle closure 5. Absolute DIAGNOSIS OF POAG Based on 1. Ophthalmoscopic examination 2. Tonometry 3. Visual field study 4.Gonioscopy 5. OCT Acute angle closure glaucoma is a medical emergency Treatment Three groups Medical Surgical Laser Medical treatment By 1. Miotics 2.Adrenergic agonists 3.Alpha adrenergic receptor antagonists 4. Beta blockers 5 . Hyperosmotic agents 6. Prostaglandin analogues Lots of other things about glaucoma one must know @ Dr.Rajesh Kayasth

Main types of glaucoma r : 1. Primary glaucoma: No definite cause is present for development of glaucoma. 2. Secondary glaucoma : Secondary to some identifiable cause , disease or trauma or drug induced . ... Primary glaucoma: Two main types r : .. primary Open angle glaucoma .. primary narrow angle glaucoma. * Primary open angle glaucoma shows typical visual field defects when untreated : ..Early defects r : .. central scotoma. .. para central scotoma. .. ronnie 's nasal step. .. arcuate defect . * in advanced glaucoma, peripheral field of vn is gradually lost from periphery towards centre , & finally tubular vn results . The lower temporal field of vn is last to be lost in untreated pts. There after perception of light is lost & pt becomes completely & permanently blind.
Glaucoma is leading cause of irreversible blindness Pattern of loss visual field Bjerrum scotoma Paracentral scotoma Nasal step and Arcuate defect Constriction of peripheral field with ring scotoma Ultimately leading to tubular field At the last only percption of light in temporal quadrent leading to P/l negative called absolute glaucoma blind eye To save eye regular ocular examination IOP Cup/Disc ratio OCT for Nerve fibre layer thickness On bases above finding time to time perimetery for early detection of field defect Loss of periferal field Pattern of visual field loss
