HOW EFFECTIVE FOSPHENYTOIN IN COMPARISON TO PHENYTOIN IN NEONATAL SEIZURE AND DOSE
fosphenytoin is a parenterally administered prodrug of phenytoin . can b given intramuscular too n rapid infusion can given too . 75 mg of fosphenytoin is equivalent to 50 mg of phenytoin . local tissue reaction cardiac toxicity like arrhythmia n hypotension are less compared to phenytoin . dose is same
Fosphenytoin does not cause the same degree of hypotension or cardiac abnormalities, soft tissue injury as compared to phenytoin. Dose-1.5 mg/kg fosphenytoin= 1 mg/kg phenytoin.
Fosphenytoin is better than phenytoin Dosage 15mg/kg loading dose followed by 5 to 8mg/kg in 2divided doses
