TB Management - A Synopsis
Despite the availability of treatment that is curative in about 90 per cent of cases, TB remains a major global health problem and a devastating disease throughout the world. Treatment of TB is a difficult task which requires administration of multiple antibiotics over a long period of time. Resistance to antibiotics is an emerging problem in multiple drug-resistant tuberculosis infections. Please share your insights on management of TB........
There are several important aspects in treatment of tuberculosis 1) Drug resistant tuberculosis is increasing, therefore it is essential to do tuberculosis drug culture and sensitivity in all patients with tuberculosis 2) Many patient have subtherapeutic levels of Rifampicin at standard dose, therefore it is important to do therapeutic drug monitoring of Rifampicin and Isoniazid, in those who are not showing response to treatment 3) Strict control of diabetes with insulin is important in treatment of tuberculosis with diabetes
