Permethrin topical has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. Animal studies have revealed no evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Permethrin topical is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk. Ivermectin is contraindicated in pregnancy

Most pregnant women will be treated topically with permethrin. Other treatments may suggest include benzyl benzoate 25%, crotamiton, or malathion 0.5%. All of these treatments are topical. Two medications should not take during pregnancy are lindane and ivermectin.
